What is Faith?

You probably know the answer because faith is defined in Hebrews 11:1.
Faith is Confidence
So how do we get faith?
Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17
Faith is Hearing
Why do we need to build our faith?
Because we want to follow what our Father in heaven and His Son teach us so that they give us their approval in judgment.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6
Faith is Power
Let’s use a real life example.
You fall straight down off a platform and break a bone or two, or more. Did you have faith? If you had faith before you fell, you surely had faith during the fall.
Do you still have faith after the fall?
Surely you do. Your faith might not have to do with the fall, but it has everything to do with how you think and feel about what just happened.
Did Jesus Christ have faith? Of course Jesus was full of faith. That is how he accomplished the work for his Father YHWH/Jehovah! As Paul wrote to the Hebrews, Jesus learned obedience by the things that he suffered. But surely his faith was not shaken during his time on earth.
Jesus had the assurance of things hoped for – to live with his Father in heaven again. And he had the conviction of things not seen – of course, he HAD seen things abundantly because he helped his Father establish the whole world. But maybe he had not seen the future as His Father knows it to be!
You wreck your car. Did you have faith?
If you had faith before the wreck, you probably did not lose it. You might have a little setback, but with time you can build it up again.
You have health problems. Do you still have faith?
Yes, no doubt you do.
Why? Because you walk and live by faith, and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:6-8)
Faith is Living
We lose a family member. Did we have faith?
Of course we did. Faith doesn’t leave us unless we give up on it!
We know that the rest of Hebrews 11 talks about righteous people like Abel and Noah who lived by their faith. Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses lived by their faith, and behaved according to it. They knew something greater was coming.
So did many others.
And so do we.
We know that faith counts for a lot when the Christ/Messiah comes.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8
If something shakes up your faith, maybe look at it as a learning experience. A time to reflect on yourself to see how you might improve. And to build your faith.
Faith doesn’t necessarily build itself in your life. You have to be active with it. You have to show up for your own life and participate in it on a spiritual level as well as on the physical level.
That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:5
Because in the end, it won’t matter whether you worked so hard, or worried so much.
What will matter is your faith.
You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. James 2:24
So if you lack faith or wisdom, and you probably know whether you do, just ask.
And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:4-5
Faith is All You Need
Start with a little faith and build up, and nothing will be impossible to you!
