From song birds to foraging creatures, birds can be found in every corner of the earth.

Beyond the sheer joy they provide, birds play a vital role in the environment – pollinating plants, dispersing seeds, controlling insects, and removing rotting flesh. (National Geographic, January 2018)

What does the Bible say about the feathered friends, fish, and others that the Almighty Creator and His Son made?

And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” Genesis 1:20

I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. Psalm 50:11

Fed Elijah:
Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” And the word of the Lord came to him: “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. He went and lived by the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. And after a while the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land. 1 Kings 17:1-7

Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Matthew 10:16

Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! Luke 12:24

Almighty YHWH:
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, ... Psalm 91:1-16

Bird House

And these you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten; they are detestable: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture, the kite, the falcon of any kind, every raven of any kind, the ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk of any kind, the little owl, the cormorant, the short-eared owl, ... Leviticus 11:13-20

But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:7-10

And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. John 1:32

You shall fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your hordes and the peoples who are with you. I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. Ezekiel 39:4

Returning King:
Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it. Isaiah 46:8-11

And many more!

In 1918, Congress passed the Migratory Bird Treaty Act to protect birds from wanton killing. To celebrate the centennial, National Geographic is partnering with the National Audubon Society, BirdLife International, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to declare 2018 the Year of the Bird. (National Geographic, January 2018)

Maybe the prophecies of our King Jesus Christ, told to us by His Father, will develop further in flight this year also!

Where are we now

Introspection and Self-Reflection Now is a good time for introspection and self-reflection. Let your conscience study your heart. What is your self-report?

Declare it privately to yourself.

- Have you had a year filled with requests?

- A complete and joyful life?

- Built good relationships?

- Raised a family?

- Accomplished your desires?

- Chased your dreams?

- Took an interest in family and friends?

- Supported the church with altruistic involvement?

- Eased someone’s suffering?

- Let go of something to move on?

- Placed yourself first?

- Put others above yourself?

Self-examination and soul-searching is advantageous in bountiful ways.

Look deep inside yourself.

Only yourself. Not in others.

Throw out the hateful, ugly, vicious, and injurious.

Cultivate the acceptable, admirable, commendable, and reputable.

To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;
not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

For, “The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
“He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.
“For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

As babes, stay your longing to learn the Word and nourish yourself with food from Jesus and YHWH.

Baby chicks

Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good?
But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed.
And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.
For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.

If you focused this year on things other than Jesus the Christ, Messiah, and Mediator to God…

Come home to him – he is the Bishop, Shepherd, and Guardian of your souls. 1 Peter 2:25

For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him. 1 Peter 3:8-22

Through grace and mercy from the Father, deliverance and redemption are sure to come.

Self-reflection is continuous.

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!
Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you unless indeed you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5

Look forward with favor and kindness, and reflect on yourself regularly.

Let your love of Christ and YHWH bring you home to their Kingdom.

Love, Peace and Joy. Acknowledge the King. This time of year, many people appear to welcome love, peace, and joy.   Let the peace of Christ rule…

While they jostle and stir to buy presents and make special meals, they convey little about Christ.

Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14

What do they attribute to him during this time?

Amidst the beauty of creation, they are overloaded with planning and preparing.

What is to blame?

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. Acts 20:28

- It’s not hardware that’s the problem – cars, computers, phones, TVs, switches, outlets.

- Nor is it software – computer programs like microsoft, chrome, firefox, google, windows.

- Neither is it firmware – instructions that control those computing devices.

The problem usually resides with the wetware – the humans.

As they bustled, hassled, trodden, and prepared:

We – as Christ’s disciples – patiently waited, and still do, for the time when our minds, bodies, and souls perfectly embrace the love, peace, and joy that is promised.

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32

And yet, we too are still maturing.

Our wetware continues to ripen and bud.

Truth is, we’re all still learning.

We don’t always know what’s best for us.

We study, absorb, and learn as we go.

Until the day we delight with pleasure in the presence of the King.

And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 1 Peter 5:4

The King who they appear to honor, but whom was overlooked.

He lives in us. Romans 8:10, 2 Corinthians 4:6-7, Galatians 2:20, Galatians 4:19.

Let us be at peace among ourselves in all things.

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm. John 18:36

And safeguard your minds, bodies, and souls to abide in love, peace, and joy.

Keeping Alert Which is more dangerous: A sin that you have done outright?

Or, to allow yourself to slip away slowly bit by bit?

Paul’s concern about the followers of Jesus Christ was evident. “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 11:3

Life Is A Wheel

What if you allow your desire for the truth to wane?

“Slip slidin’ away
Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away” (Another Paul - Simon)

Slipping away is what the devil wants us to do. But we must remain steadfast.

Slipping Away

For this reason, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. Heb 2:1

Drift Away

What if you neglect the fire that Yahweh/Jehovah and Jesus Christ filled you with to serve them?

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:12-19

Our Praise Worthy King

If your fire for the Almighty and His Son diminishes, what will be the end result?

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. Revelation 2:4-5

The Fruit Of The Spirit

How do you know if you are slip sliding?

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. James 5:19-20

Keep On The Watch

Keep watch over your soul. Help the bishop and deacon with less of a burden, because as elders they watch over your souls also.

Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:16

Like we discussed last week, part of keeping your passion and fire alive is to take care of your body.

Take Care Of The Body

But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27

We are all being tested every day.

Keep alert in your attention so that you minimize your slippage, mistakes, and blunders.

If you can’t seem to get ahead of your pain, sorrow, bodily aches, or depression, seek help. Any one of us can help. Or might need help.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

Lens Of Possibility

Appear in prayer tomorrow morning, and all this week and beyond, with a resolve to stay grounded, patiently wait, and persevere so that you can enter the kingdom of the Almighty and His Son.

Turn up your drive, with toughness, humility, and vitality for the love of God and His son!
