People will say and do anything to achieve their own agenda, even if it means hurting others. In this age of data overload, it is often difficult to trust what people say or the information they publish. But the Bible is still steadfast and has not changed over the many years of man’s existence, and we can be assured that the words in His writings are true and the right place to put our trust.
If a person fears God, their outcome at death or the coming of Jesus Christ is infinitely better than if they support evil ways. For people who continue to live in sin, will mercy be given to them when Jesus Christ comes? If you are living in sin, the doubt alone should worry you greatly. Be honest with yourself.
Consider the writings of the Apostle John in 9:31: “We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.” Why don’t many people hear and do God’s words? John 8:47 says, “He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.” (NASB) It can’t be worded any clearer than that!
God’s word is a like a light in the darkness all around us that shows us how to live. Read Psalm 119:105. We can change ourselves to become God-fearing, but it is up to each one of us. In Proverbs 2:1-5, the Bible says, “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.” That is great advice from the Almighty!
Some people do not hear Almighty God, because of false religious teachings and scandals, childhood abuses by authority figures, or for other reasons. Some become agnostic or atheist, and cannot find their way to God. Others refuse to put themselves under the rule of a religion, person, or organization that might harm them again. Can you blame them? Separated from God, people choose to do whatever they want, and often do not consider the overall good of humanity or show love toward their fellow mankind. They choose to live in the history of their suffering instead of looking forward.
In John 10:25-28, Jesus gives hope and assurance of eternal life for people who believe. “Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
If you hear and do the word of God, good for you. But be careful how you hear. As Luke 8:17-18 says, “For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.” (NASB)
