End of (Mosaic) Law, Becoming a Christian

The New Covenant replaced the Old Covenant (see study #17). But when did that go into effect? The new covenant went to effect with the sacrifice of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. Christ was the one who brought the message of the New Covenant, available to all nations. At his death all things were fulfilled pertaining to the change in covenants. No one can be justified by the law but can be justified through faith and grace with Jesus. The Law under Moses ended for the Jewish people when Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law and was sacrificed. The Jewish people following the commandments would become Christians as would anybody else from the other nations who would become followers of Jesus Christ. However for those not following the words of Jesus Christ, they are still under the judgment established by the Mosaic Law, which cannot justify anyone because all would all be guilty.

Ten CommandmentsThe Mosaic Law commanded to not kill, “Thou Shall Not Kill” (Exodus 20:13). If the Mosaic Law ended does that change the right to kill? No. Under the Law of Christ killing would be a sin, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:36-40).
